Alongside painting, I have always created works in thread, using a freehand embroidery technique. Layers of cotton thread are built up on raw linen to the extent that those first laid down are almost completely obscured by the end of the process.

Working with the limitations of a dry, line-based medium helps to inform my approach to oil painting when it comes to colour mixing and defining key elements of a complex, layered landscape.
